My wife and I were enjoying dinner a few nights ago with some dear friends who, by the way are very like-minded with us politically. To be quite honest I can’t think of anyone we regularly socialize with who are not politically in sync with us. Lets face it, the political world is a big part of my life and so why would I spend valuable social time with someone whose political views I find reprehensible?

Reprehensible is a strong word, but it aptly describes my feelings toward the Bush administration from top to bottom. All of my life I have endeavored to be able to argue both sides of an argument. This tact has served me well as I have been able to look at issues from all sides, thus enabling me to be ready to counter any challenges coming from the other side of the debate. But now? Now I find it absolutely impossible to peer inside of the minds of those who are still firmly planted on the political Right. The present day political Right is a world completely unknown to me... a realm so dark, so repugnant that I cannot intellectually go there. All of the skills that I have learned in my life about thought and understanding, debate and compromise are not helpful to me when I try and put myself in that particular part of hell.

And so I am left to keep my distance from them. I seek to bring them to understand the political realities we are facing because of the bumbling, fumbling and deceit by the Bush administration but, they prefer to stumble on, blissfully unaware of the frightening consequences being brought to our nation and to the Middle-East. Thankfully, some of them have seen the light. But, around 30% of them are firmly entrenched in that distant, dark world of their own choosing and I fear nothing any of us can say or do will cause them to come to their senses.

But back to why I started this message to you. Our friends and us were enjoying a cup of coffee when someone found the picture in the newspaper of the so-called Iranian weapons our people in Iraq had found. I took one look at the picture and the damned coffee went flying out of my nose. Was anyone supposed to take those pictures seriously? Did you all notice the markings on them? Did you notice the markings on the bombs were in English? No Arabic or Iranian markings? 3-2006? Iran doesn’t even use the Gregorian calendar. They use a Jalali Calendar or the Persian Calendar.

So, Mr. Jr. Bush and his friends are at it again. They are putting forth bogus information that is absurd on its face and the American people will be expected to lap it up again just like they did when Jr. Bush was leading us into Iraq. The question is: Will he get away with it again? “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” Stay tuned.
